Setting Up an Email Client with POP3 or IMAP for IDNT Business Mail or IDNT Hosted Exchange

This document describes the settings required to retrieve email messages via POP3 or IMAP. Depending on the software, the terminology used may vary slightly. To configure your email client, you will need the following information:

  • Your email address
  • Username and password for your email mailbox

Unlike POP3, IMAP allows access not only to the inbox but also to folders you have created and their management. Messages remain securely stored on the server.

Incoming Mail:

  • Server: mail.idnt.net
  • SSL/TLS: enabled
  • Port: 993

⚠️ If your email client does not support SSL encryption, please use port 143. However, in this case, you should urgently update your email client, as your messages and login credentials will be transmitted unencrypted without this feature.

Settings for Email Retrieval with POP3

POP3 allows you to retrieve incoming messages, which are usually deleted from our systems by your email client after retrieval. Access to folders is not possible via POP3. On mobile phones, POP3 may also cause higher power consumption compared to using IMAP.

Incoming Mail:

  • Server: mail.idnt.net
  • SSL/TLS: enabled
  • Port: 995

⚠️ If your email client does not support SSL encryption, please use port 110. However, in this case, you should urgently update your email client, as your messages and login credentials will be transmitted unencrypted without this feature.

Settings for Email Sending (SMTP)

Outgoing Mail:

  • Server: mail.idnt.net
  • Port: 25
  • TLS/STARTTLS: enabled

⚠️ Be sure to enable the TLS/STARTTLS feature. This ensures your messages are transmitted encrypted. If this feature is not available, please check if a "Use SSL" option exists. In this case, enable it and enter 465 in the Port field.

If your email client has a "Use same credentials as for incoming mail" option, enable it. Otherwise, enter the same information for the outgoing mail server (SMTP) authentication as for email retrieval.
